Introducing Sports
Science in School
Synopsis:
In a continuous effort
to promote Exercise and Sports Science in Singapore, SMa School of
Management, in collaboration with Edith Cowan University, is organising a
series of seminars to raise the awareness of Exercise and Sports Science.
“Introducing Sports Science in School” is targeted at PE teachers who are
looking for a scientific approach of engaging their students in exercise
and sports.
1. Setting Kids
in Motion: Making a Healthy Start
Obesity and weight related medical conditions in children
are rising and is of concern for healthcare providers, parents and
teachers. Getting kids to be active can be a challenge and requires a
strategy that addresses not only their physical health but also their
psychological well-being. This talk will provide insights on how teachers
can help set kids in motion and getting them active so they can make a
healthy start in life.

The Right Games to Play: Developing Body Awareness, Coordination and
Balance
Children who are confident with most fundamental movement
skills are able to participate in a wider range of physical activities,
thus maximizing their health and well-being. This talk will highlight
important fundamental movement skills and identify exercises that can be
used to help kids build a good foundation towards an active lifestyle.

Speaker:
Prior to his
appointment in Republic Polytechnic, Kai Ming was a NIE-trained PE Teacher
with 7 years of teaching experience in a primary, secondary and an
international school. His academic interests are primarily in Strength
& Conditioning and Exercise Physiology. He believes that these 2
domains share an intimate relationship that is essential for an
individual’s optimal physical performance.
